October Horror Movie Challenge Results 2009

It's time again for an annual tradition - The October Horror Movie Challenge!

Simply stated, the challenge is: Watch 31 films in October, 16 of which must be 1st time views. Of course, the secondary challenge is simply to watch as many movies as possible during those 31 days.

Last year, as I was out of town (Lewisburg, WV) doing a play (Macbeth), with fewer distractions around than usual, I was shooting for around 60 flickers, with planned stops at Hammer Horror, William Castle, the Classic FLY trilogy, Tod Browning, Val Lewton, the AZTEC MUMMY trilogy, some unviddied kaiju and a few surprises along the way. (A lot of those were films that I'd only seen once and had been wanting to revisit, so while I knew I'd get in my required 16 FTV's, for the most part I planned to wallow in repeats...)

As you can see, that's just what happened:

  1. Good luck with this year's movie challenge, Doc. I'm going to be watching a fair number of Hammer films this month myself since TCM is showing blocks of them every Friday (and I've also got that box set Universal put out a few years ago to get through). And you may be interested to know that William Castle's Let's Kill Uncle is going to be on TCM Underground, Sat. 10/9 at 2:45 a.m. (1:45 Chicago time). Figured I'd give you a head's up since that one doesn't show up too often.

  2. Thanks for the good luck wishes (right back atcha!!!) and for the heads up. If you're taping it, hang onto it. I'm also going to see if Kitley's friends can cover for us as well. One of these days, I might just have to break down and get cable. Last year, the apartment I was staying in down in West Virginia had TCM as part of the package - Amazing.

  3. Can do, Doc. It'll be at the end of a tape with The Reptile and The Gorgon since I'm going to be away the weekend it's airing, but I'll definitely hang onto it for you if you need me to.
